Opera Mini 4 Browser Now Ready For Your Phone

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

All you mobile warriors out there that want to tackle the World Wide Web from your phone but don’t want to use the integrated browser that came with your phone…breath easy friends.  Relief is here.  Relief, in this case, is spelled OPERA.

That’s right, much-loved web browser Opera has just released their new Mini 4 Browser for your mobile phones.  The coolest part about this release, they claim it lets users view web pages on their phones exactly how they’d look on their desktop computers.  Wow, snazzy.

According to the article i just read,

“Two years ago, we introduced Opera Mini to the world because we wanted to bring the Web to users everywhere. Today, Opera Mini is the world’s most popular mobile browser,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “As a result, the mobile Web is now a mass phenomenon. Opera Mini 4 raises the bar for user-friendly access to the Web on
any mobile phone, anywhere in the world.”

Want it?  Head over and check it out.  Being mobile may have just gotten a whole lot easier.

MoGo x54 Mouse: First Impressions

Monday, November 12th, 2007

In a word:  Wow.  Photos of the MoGo X54 Mouse will be forthcoming, hands on photos, that is.  For now, all I can say is WOW.  The scrolling is smooth, the response time is amazingly fast, the accuracy of the pointer is spot-on, it charges fast, holds the charge forever and pairs in no time at all.

Secondly, and so so impressively to me, is the multi-media mode on the X54.  The ability to simply press the tiny Mode button on the back and have it switch to a remote controller for my iTunes, Windows Media Player, or other similar program on my computer was AMAZING.  From 35 feet away in my room, I was able to adjust the volume, change songs, pause, skip, fast forward and stop songs.  No getting up, no running around, just a simple push and you’re changing your music on the fly.  Unreal.

Bottom line, if you don’t have one yet, get one.  Now.   Be looking for some photos on Wednesday, they will be pretty and they will be saliva producing.  It’s almost Christmas, this would be such a perfect gift.

Also be looking out for first impressions for the MoGo Dapter.  I’ll say this:  Sweet.

And Now for Something Completely Different

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Here at MoGo Blog, Tyler and I have dozens of resources we check every day to keep up with the mobile IT industry and technology trends.

Sometimes, we come across something that just tickles our fancy.

About a week ago, Wired Magazine came out with a breakdown of the contents of Nyquil. Ingredient by ingredient, with tongue firmly in cheek, they explain what’s in it and what it does.

Just as cold and flu season hits  us, this little article is quite an eye-opener, written in that ubiquitous  Wired style. We couldn’t help but pass it along!

(Full article Here)

”…One of the many wonder-pharmaceuticals that can be derived from coal tar, acetaminophen was used for nearly a century as a painkiller and fever reducer before anyone figured out how it worked. We now know that as the drug breaks down in the body, it turns into a cannabinoid: yes, stoners, the same type of compound that makes marijuana so irresistible.”

Aww A Wireless Plan For Seniors…Thanks AT&T

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

This one is for all you mobile warriors that have seen more than a battle or two!  That’s right, all you battle hardened vets, a.k.a. senior citizens, this one is for you, and AT&T has you covered.  Literally.

That’s right, AT&T has just started introducing a new wireless plan for senior citizens.  Aimed at consumers 65 and older, the new AT&T Senior Nation 200 plan will hopefully provide senior citizens with a pretty cheap way of staying connected to friends and family.  Basically, the plan “includes 200 Anytime Minutes, 500 Night & Weekend Minutes and unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling for $29.99 a month.”  Not too shabby.

How this is a “senior” plan exactly, remains to be seen, it sounds to me just like a cheaper voice plan.  But whatever, shiny packaging can sometimes make or break the product…right?   So, if you’re an AT&T fan and you have a senior friend or family member, why not divert their eyes this way…let them be true mobile warrior vets.

Nope, No G-Phone Yet

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Here at the MoGo blog, Tyler and I have been anticipating the arrival of the “Google Phone”. As he wrte yesterday, we along with many analysts have known that Google’s entry into the mobile phone arena was a matter of ‘when’ - not ‘if’.

But the exact date remains shrouded.

Yesterday was assumed by many to be the big announcement, but alas… Google dashed expectations at the very begining of the conference call;  “We aren’t announcing a Google phone today,” said Google Chairman and Chief Executive Eric Schmidt .

Instead, Google has introduced the open-platform called ‘Android’, based on the company Google purchased in 2005 from Andy Rubin (now Director of Google’s Mobile Platforms.).  The platform Google promises will be less restrictive than current popular systems.

Schmidt gave few details about what Android would look like, but the alliance’s Web site said:

“…devices built on the platform would personalize the phone’s homescreen or designate their favorite photo application to view their photos.

From a developer’s point of view, it would allow combining information from the Web with data on the phone, such as the user’s contacts, calendar or location.”

Google Phone in 2008?!

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Hold on to your hats all you Googlephiles.  Is that a word?  No.  But it is now.  We’ve all wondered it, we’ve all seen it coming, hinted around it and questioned if it was really going to happen, and now, all that has come to a head.  COULD we see a Google Phone in 2008?

Some people think yes.  Most of us hope yes.  Time will tell.  I just read an article over at MobileCrunch that poses this very same question, and comes up with some very hopeful answers.  According to their article:

“There is compelling evidence to suggest that Google is moving into the phone business. Services like Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail are perfect applications for mobile devices, so why not offer an all Google package? The company has increased its media reach over the last few years to include online video, television, radio and print advertising. An inexpensive handset that can deliver multiple forms of media is a good fit with Google’s past acquisitions. If it can make a cheap phone call, so much the better.”

Here’s to hoping.  It just better be Bluetooth ready, because when the MoGo Headset launches, I’m going to want to try it out on the new Google Phone/GPhone whatever you want to nickname it.  Hold on tight, things are going to get interesting.
