Great Article: Meet Matt Westover

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Wow how did I NOT see this gem before now?!  This gem I’m referring to, is an absolutely awesome article I Just found called “Meet Matt Westover - The Man Behind The MoGo Mouse.”  Basically the article does just that, it allows all of You, to meet Matt, who truly is the man behind the MoGo Mouse.

Head over and check it out, watch the embedded video they provided and learn a whole slew of info about not only Matt, but this great company in general.  The article sums it up pretty sweetly:

“The vision that Matt and the folks at Newton Peripherals had of a mouse that would fit into an available open slot on a notebook, connect without wires using Bluetooth technology and provide that ease of navigation on a screen that we were so used to getting on our desktops was a grand dream.  But dreams and their realizations are what makes us so unique and it was this dream that led to the growth and the ultimate success of the first MoGo Mouse.”

Mobility On The Go.  MoGo.  At any rate, thanks for a great article, keep enjoying the mouse!

Air France Lets The Cell Phone Calls Fly

Friday, December 28th, 2007

You know that guy that sits next to you on the airplane that still makes cell phone calls even though all the flight attendants told him to stow his belongings?  Yeah, that guy.  Well, if you’re flying on Air France, you can’t be mad at that guy anymore.  Bummer.

That’s right, Air France is going through a trial phase of allowing in-flight cell phone use for sending and receiving short messages or checking their email…in 3 months time, voice calls are going to be lumped into the experiment, assuming of course it doesn’t interfere with the comfort or well-being of other passengers.  Newsflash, it already is.

Actually, I shouldn’t be so harsh, as a member of the mobile generation I can fully appreciate the need to speak to someone when you want, where you want, and no mobile warrior is complete without that capability.  This will help in that regard but the true question remains…at what cost?  According to the article, to avoid navigation/plane operation issues here’s how it goes down:

“A small cellular base station inside the plane routs onboard calls and messages. Messages are sent to a satellite and then to the ground and the phone’s network. The service is supplied by OnAir, a company partially owned by airplane maker Airbus.”

Groovy, but does that mean I want to hear about your meatloaf, your business deal, your schmoopy woopy or your love bug?  No.  It doesn’t, and No, it won’t.

Best Guides to your After-Christmas Sales

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

We love a good sale as much as anyone. Last week, the Washington Post ran a great article about how to find one.  Their advice for tech geeks like us?

Big-screen, high-definition TVs will drop in price the week after Christmas and then come back up and hold steady until the Super Bowl. Prices on computers were slashed last year and the same may happen again this year.”

Tech superstores, like Fry’s Electronics, are  running 1-day and 2-day sales with bait bargains like laptops for under $400. And doesn’t your MoGo deserve a new laptop?

Don’t have a MoGo yet? Well, AT&T is  still offering  a FREE one  to customers who switch from Cable to their DSL.

Awesome Fan Post of the Day: “MoGo Mouse X54: More Fun Than Nipples”

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

You heard it folks, the MoGo Mouse X54 is officially being called by some of our fans out there as more fun than nipples.  Yeah, the computer kind of mouse that sometimes rests quietly between keys on laptops.  You know, in lieu of a trackpad, the little nub that lets you maneuver around your screen.  Not particularly effective, and not particularly fun to use.

Enter the MoGo Mouse X54…better in, well, all ways.  I just found a post over at an Asian branch of the CNet Blog and it looks like Rory Reid is enjoying the MoGo Mouse much more than using the nipple, or the trackpad.  Good!  Here’s a snippet of what he had to say:

Some people love nipples, others prefer trackpads, but neither of these laptop input devices is as good as a proper external mouse–not when it comes to gaming or image editing, or anything for that matter.

Thankfully, there’s a solution: The Mogo Mouse X54. This wireless Bluetooth mouse collapses to fit into a vacant ExpressCard/54 slot–hence the name–where it automatically recharges. After 30 minutes on charge, it’ll run for a good 8-10 hours from a range of up to 10m away.

Better still, the X54 doubles as a wireless remote control. Flick the switch on the rear to activate media mode, and the function of each button changes. The left and right selectors become previous and next track, the scroll pad manages the volume, and the back button becomes mute. “

Thanks for the shout-out Rory, and thanks for enjoying the product!

$85,000 Cell Phone Bill = Canadian Tears

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Man, and I thought Verizon could be sticklers about charging you for almost every single penny they possibly could.  How would you feel if you were a Canadian man, lonely in your job testing oil and natural gas wells alone, and you wake up to find a cell phone bill charging you a not-so-pleasant $85,000?

Yeah.  Me too.  Too bad this all really happened to Piotr Staniaszek in Canada.  Basically here’s what went down:  He was bored, lonely and Alone so he used his phone as a modem, thinking that browsing the internet was all part of the $10/month unlimited browser plan he signed up for.  The bad news came fast as he racked up hours and hours of internet time downloading movies and music and an assortment of other files.  Then came the bill.

Yeah, apparently it’s pretty clear in the contract that those are Not free activities and he WILL be paying for them.  Lucky for him, Bell, the company in question, agreed to reduce the charge down to a little over $3000, but he plans on fighting that as well.

Bottom line friends, read the fine print.  Please.  All true mobile warriors know that, unfortunately, the youth of America (myself very included) don’t always do so.  Hey, who can blame us, we’re the MTV Generation after all.

Have You Evah? MoGo at YouTube

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

I was surprised to discover last night that YouTube has quite a collection of homemade videos about teh MoGo Mouse family.

We’ve linked before, I think, to the one by Tris Hussey (who is an associate). Yesterday, I watched some others. One of my favorites is a very in-depth one by ‘Experience Mobility’ that spends about 9 minutes showing the ins and outs of the mouse (in a lovely lakeside location, btw). This video is an absolutely nuts-and-bolts tour of every aspect of the guy’s experience with the mouse.

My other favorite? The Shiny Review of the new X54. They posted it just last week and, as they say on their site, use the word ‘Little’ more times than they can count…but when you’re talking about the X54 - you DO run out of synonyms for ’small’ pretty quick!

Not that anyone needs an excuse to blow some time at YouTube, right? … Enjoy!

French Dropping A Grand For iPhones

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Goodness Gracious my French friends. Might I Just take a brief moment to ask, WHAT are you doing? Granted it’s only 1 out of every 5 of you, but still, what are you thinking dropping a cool $1,000 on an unlocked iPhone?!

That’s right, according to new reports, 20% of all French iPhone iFanatics (don’t steal that Apple, I just made it up) are paying around $1000 for the unlocked version of the popular touch-screen mobile phone. Now, I understand that many Europeans are a bit more, well, savvy when it comes to spending More money to get More product, and this is a good example of this. However, and yes I’m starting the sentence with that, what Doesn’t make sense to me, is they Could buy an iPhone on EBay, crack it, and save 2/3 of what they spent. Why, my dear friends, wouldn’t they at least Try to save some bucks Euros.

I do concur with the article that tipped me off on this; if iPhone 2.0 comes out unlocked in these United States, I do declare it will be arguably the largest mobile phone seller Ever. Ever. We’ll see I suppose but for now, the discerning mobile warriors of FranceLand are spending more to get it unlocked. Would you? Would I? Good question.
