Waterproof Cell Phones…Perfect.

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Well, this post should appropriately round out my trifecta of posts this week all about just how immersed in the future we truly are.  In a way, Elizabeth inspired me last week with her post on the future that is Bluetooth lawnmowers and these 3 posts for me this week have all been about other ways you can futurize your life with the gadgets you carry.

Today’s very simple, very cool and very helpful way to futurize yourself, is to once and for all get a cell phone that won’t break if you get it wet.  How important is that for you, I do not know, but for me, it’d be pretty darn huge seeing as though I’ve gone through More than my share of phones due to rain, tea, and the sink.  Yikes.

According to the article I just read,

“The handset is only 13.7 mm thick and is being marketed as the thinnest waterproof phone ever made. A lot of technology went into making this phone to meet IPX5 and IPX7 waterproof standards. This wonder will work even after being sprayed or submersed in water for 30 minutes.”

Sounds awesome to me.

AT&T Launching Mobile TV Service?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Man, when it rains it pours for all us Mobile Warriors out and about.  First we find out about the ability to program your DVR from your cell phone, now we’re finding out that AT&T is going to launch their very own Mobile TV Service sometime soon!

You heard right folks, the service that was supposed to be released sometime last year is finally being launched.  According to the article I just read, “the service will launch with two exclusive channels, in addition to the eight channels on rival Verizon Wireless…”   Sounds like if they really want to compete they better make darn sure it competes with Sprint’s service as well.  Bottom line is, no matter what wireless provider you use, it’s great that this kind of technology is coming everywhere.  Not only will you not have to program your DVR over your phone, you won’t have to miss the episodes of your shows at all!

Regardless, go check out the article, brace yourself for February 5th, and get ready to be rockin’ some of your favorite stuff right there on the tiny screen of your tiny cell phone.  Crazy how fast we’re advancing.  Crazy.

Bluetooth Lawnmowers to Cell Phone DVR Planning

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Last week Elizabeth posted about just how crazy it’d be to have a Bluetooth lawnmower cruising around your yard.  Can you imagine?  That said, in passing she also mentioned how the future truly is here in that she can simply email her DVR to tell it to start recording…well for all us mobile warriors, turns out the future is actually a lot MORE here than we thought.

That’s right friends, mobile warriors, American Idol lovers…DirecTV is actually going to be allowing you to program your DVR from your cell phone.  Yeah, your phone.  Think of this, you could be sitting in an airport and remember how much you can’t miss Lost and 10 seconds later, you’re recording.  Crazy.

Basically it’s called the DirecTV DVR Scheduler and it’s pretty darn sweet for all you customers of the service.  The ability to be mobile, stay mobile and not have to sacrifice the creature comforts of actually being home is amazing…not to mention futuristic.  So, just imagine your Bluetooth Lawnmower cutting your grass, your DVR recording American Idol and you on a plane, 5,000 miles away.  How Jetsons of you.

What you’ve been waiting for… the Bluetooth Robotic Lawnmower!

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

When Tyler and I were talking about the future of Bluetooth some months back, we had a good time imagining future applications of the technology. The Bluetooth Dog Walker/Pooper Scooper, the Bluetooth Mug Warmer, even the Bluetooth Calorie Counter (stick it in a Big Mac and out comes the awful truth…) were all some of the late-night ideas that took my fancy.

Something I don’t think EITHER of us even imagined is hitting the market at about $3200.

Yes, you guessed it. The Bluetooth robotic lawnmower!

I’m still deciding if this is for real, y’all. Sure, I can email my television and have it record American Idol on the fly but can we even compare that to something with the chopping power of your favorite chainsaw wandering about your yard unsupervised?

Operating on the same principles as those robotic vacuum cleaners,  this little baby does come packed with some bleeding edge features:

Through Bluetooth, the homeowner can program which days of the week and what hours of the day the LawnBott needs to come out of its charging base and cut the grass. At the end of its work cycle, the LawnBott will go back to its charging station and take a nap while it recharges, ready to come out again for the next cycle.

It will be on sale at Kyodo America.

iPhone Gets Software Update

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Fairly sure unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are well aware of the iPhone, the need for an update, and all the people that tried to manipulate theirs themselves and ended up with a big fat brick.  Ooops.

That said my friends, a REAL iPhone software update is finally here and by the sounds of things, it helps do some pretty nifty things.  According to the article I just read the new update allows users, “to find their location using the Maps application; text message multiple people in one message; create Web Clips for websites; customize their home screen; and watch movies rented from the iTunes Movie Rentals.”

While the iPhone notoriously lacks GPS, something that I’m guessing will be remedied in the future renditions of the device, the new update lets users find their location “automatically” by triangulating their position based on WiFi access points, and cell phone towers…good Lord, wouldn’t adding GPS just be, well, easier?

That said, if you are an iPhone user, use your iTunes to get things updated…I’m quite sure you’ll be happy.

Double Cell Phone Battery Life? Count Me In!

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Well well well, nothing like kicking off Monday morning with some good news!  The good news in question, kind friends, especially if you’re a mobile warrior is this:  Research into fuel cells might just be able to effectively DOUBLE your cell phone battery life.

Ok, now there is some not so good news…well, I suppose it depends on how positive of a person you are as to whether or not this news is bad or good:  This advance in technology won’t be ready until around 2010.   This is where your outlook can determine if that’s bad or good, bad in that it’s not NOW, but good in that it’s not 2050.  Right?

According to the article I just read:

“Angstrom Power recently completed trials of a fuel cell system that effectively doubled talk time and the overall battery life in mobile phones. The trial involved a Motorola SLVR L7 and a fuel system that fit inside the phone without modification. The Micro Hydrogen platform uses a new fuel cell architecture, micro-fluidics and a refillable hydrogen storage tank to provide power. Angstrom believes the technology could be built into phones as early as 2010, but the logistics of refilling/recharging systems have yet to be worked out.”

Sounds groovy to me, personally I am psyched for the day I don’t have to charge my phone mid-afternoon just so it doesn’t die in the evening!

The CES is a transformative event for the companies that attend as well as the consumers. For MoGo, the overwhelming response and interaction with everyone from other industry innovators to excited customers has been experience of immeasurable value.

Jack will be chatting with Dave Graveline, the honcho behind Into Tomorrow, about MoGo’s experience at the CES and what’s ahead in 2008 (and beyond?).

Broadcasting From Las Vegas, Dave and his team will also be posting more video coverage from the show floor and counting down Dave’s Top 10 picks at CES.

Got a question for Jack? There’s an Ask Dave! hotline at 1-800-899-INTO (4686).

And don’t forget to check out their site for tons of news and behind-the-scenes photos from last week.

Matt Westover’s CES Confessional on CNBC

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

This should be the last post about this years amazing CES 2008!  I just found another awesome little blurb on CNBC that is basically “Matt Westover’s CES Confessional” and lets you know exactly how Matt feels about the good people at CNBC, Deutsch Inc. and everyone at the CES that helped MoGo’s ride through be so extremely exciting, and extremely smooth!

I might be an idiot, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get this little baby embedded here, so in the meantime head over here, and let the little gem load.

Enjoy!
