Not sure if you knew, but last night was the Grammy Awards. The hands-down highlight for me was when some of the cast of Across the Universe got up and sang their rendition of “Let it Be.” Chills. That said, I also discovered something pretty cool, Nokia offered up and served the Grammy Award Show for their mobile phone customers.
That’s right folks, the entire Grammy Show was available for download or preloaded. How cool is that? Very cool. That said, some people I wanted to win didn’t, some I didn’t want to win, Did. What can you do? The fact is, the fact that award shows, TV shows, movies, and yes even though it’s old already, music on cell phones just blows my mind. I can’t wait to see what else is available mobile style in the years to come…what’s next, meals delivered through your cell phone?
Don’t laugh, it really could be next. That said, the article mentions,
“The Grammy Awards are synonymous with the best in entertainment…For the 50th Anniversary of the Awards, we are excited to offer the best of the Awards in exclusive video programming via the Nokia Video Centre, Medeo and other entertainment channels to millions of Nokia device owners around the world.”
Rock on Nokia…literally.

As a mobile warrior, you and I both know the Mobile Warrior code: We die with honor and glory. Right? Ok, maybe as mobile warriors we’re actually apples fallen pretty darn far from a true warriors tree…well, most of us.
So, this one isn’t exactly technology related in a GOOD way, it is interesting and hopefully updates will explain to us that it isn’t true. Anyhow, here goes: A man reportedly was found dead in South Korea and according to a doctor, the 33 year-old quarry worker was found dead “with a mobile phone stuck to his chest. It is believed that the device may have caused the death. The man had burns on his chest, fractured ribs and internal bleeding.” Wow. Authorities are wondering if the death could be attributed to the phone itself, possibly a faulty battery?
UPDATE: Ok, mid-research on this one I find out that now South Korean officials are saying the chances of an explosion from the battery causing this man’s death are slim to none. The cause of death has yet to be determined, but LG and others are claiming it is not a possibility. What did happen? The moment I Know, you’ll know.

Bonjour, je suis iPhone. Yep, it’s true, the iPhone is French now. Well, French too. And British, and German, and American and soon to be a whole lot of other nationalities. At any rate, it is officially official that the Apple iPhone has made its way over the sea, over the confusing political differences and into the loving arms of Parisians.
According to the article I just read on my good ol’ RSS feeder, “Orange, the mobile phone and Internet branch of France Telecom, has the exclusive rights to sell the Apple handset in the country that gave us Paris. Twelve outlets in France are offering the device for 749 euros today, before the full launch scheduled for tomorrow.”
My question to you, all of you is this: Will the iPhone have the impact there that it did here? Will it spawn copycats? Will it push other mobile phone designers to push their own limits? What will the global impact of an American sensation be? I’d love your feedback on this one, and I’d love to hear how all of YOU think the iPhone will help change global mobile warriors. Global Mobile. Cool.

All you mobile warriors out there that want to tackle the World Wide Web from your phone but don’t want to use the integrated browser that came with your phone…breath easy friends. Relief is here. Relief, in this case, is spelled OPERA.
That’s right, much-loved web browser Opera has just released their new Mini 4 Browser for your mobile phones. The coolest part about this release, they claim it lets users view web pages on their phones exactly how they’d look on their desktop computers. Wow, snazzy.
According to the article i just read,
“Two years ago, we introduced Opera Mini to the world because we wanted to bring the Web to users everywhere. Today, Opera Mini is the world’s most popular mobile browser,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “As a result, the mobile Web is now a mass phenomenon. Opera Mini 4 raises the bar for user-friendly access to the Web on
any mobile phone, anywhere in the world.”
Want it? Head over and check it out. Being mobile may have just gotten a whole lot easier.

Here at the MoGo blog, Tyler and I have been anticipating the arrival of the “Google Phone”. As he wrte yesterday, we along with many analysts have known that Google’s entry into the mobile phone arena was a matter of ‘when’ - not ‘if’.
But the exact date remains shrouded.
Yesterday was assumed by many to be the big announcement, but alas… Google dashed expectations at the very begining of the conference call; “We aren’t announcing a Google phone today,” said Google Chairman and Chief Executive Eric Schmidt .
Instead, Google has introduced the open-platform called ‘Android’, based on the company Google purchased in 2005 from Andy Rubin (now Director of Google’s Mobile Platforms.). The platform Google promises will be less restrictive than current popular systems.
Schmidt gave few details about what Android would look like, but the alliance’s Web site said:
“…devices built on the platform would personalize the phone’s homescreen or designate their favorite photo application to view their photos.
From a developer’s point of view, it would allow combining information from the Web with data on the phone, such as the user’s contacts, calendar or location.”

Happy Monday friends. Hopefully the weekend saw you getting outside and enjoying whatever semblance of Summer is left in your area. Hopefully you really were outside and not inside on MySpace. If you HAD to be on MySpace, and trust me I know a great deal of people that HAVE to be on it far too often, things might be getting a lot better for you, and you might just be able to combine the great outdoors and MySpace in one glorious union.
Yeah, enough chit chat, the bottom line is, Fox Interactive Media is launching free Mobile MySpace access. Yikes. According to the article I just read, “Accessing the Internet from a mobile phone will soon be as common as text messaging and voice calling, and it’s FIM’s goal to deliver these new free, ad-supported experiences as additional options for our users on top of our incredibly popular premium mobile services.” Basically, that means you’re going to be able to do all this, BUT, you’re going to have to put up with a whole slew of ad’s. It’s more TheirSpace than it is your space, but nevertheless, you’ll be able to check up on those all-important bulletins from wherever your cell phone may roam.
That last sentence, just made me extremely depressed. I am sorry if it did the same to you.

You know, it was bound to happen, wasn’t it? Just like people figure out ways to spam Bluetooth, send annoying ads to your mobile phone and break HD-DVD copy protection, it was bound to happen that someone, somewhere would copy the iPhone somehow.
That somehow has been done, in China. I guess it’s being called the iClone, but some people are going as far as to say the Chinese pirated MiniOne is even better than the iPhone it’s pretending to be. Wow. According to the article I just read:
“The miniOne looked just like Apple’s iPhone, down to the slick no-button interface. But it was more. It ran popular mobile software that the iPhone wouldn’t. It worked with nearly every worldwide cellphone carrier, not just AT&T, and not only in the U.S. It promised to cost half as much as the iPhone and be available to 10 times as many consumers.”
The question raised, that I must say I want answered as well, is this: Does this signal the start of something bigger in China? I am truly curious what other products they can copy/improve upon/relaunch out into the world. Are we going to be stuck in an “anything you can do I can do better,” world? If so, how will that affect products and their availability to us? Interesting, very interesting.

So the iPhone is officially out. I’m sure you’ve seen the news, the videos and photos of people lined up for days just to get their hands on one. All that excitement, all that hullabaloo and all those claims that Apple and the iPhone will completely take over the wireless industry. Wow, that, my friends, is quite a claim.
So, is it possible? COULD Apple and the iPhone take over the wireless industry? The article I just read over at LiveDigitally.com thinks not, and I agree, and though it’s possible I just don’t see it happening in the near future. As the article points out, first and foremost there are just way too many handsets sold worldwide each year made by Other manufacturers. They go on to mention things like turnover rates of phones and the OS that is on them, even down to the claim that style and experience matters less in the mobile phone world than it does in the portable music player/computer world. Bottom line, they think that for the iPhone to even have a prayer at taking over the wireless world, Apple would have to consistently design and re-design the iPhone for it to always be ahead of the game.
The point I think they are missing, a point that’s most obvious to me is this: At this time, the Apple iPhone is ONLY available on the AT&T/Cingular network. That leaves a gaping hole for all those who use Verizon, T-Mobile or any of the other, smaller networks. I am a Verizon user myself, and while I was visually impressed by what I saw with the iPhone, first off, I didn’t want to shell out that kind of dough (another reason it might have trouble), and second off, I was irked that I couldn’t get the phone even if I wanted to. I’m sure a great deal of Verizon users share the same sentiments.
Sound off: Do YOU Think the iPhone could be Apple’s first step to taking over the wireless world? Why? Why Not? What would it take for them to achieve this??
